about

I wrote this while in graduate school, probably about 11 years ago. It's a surrealist story that combines that tests the veil of reality. The songwriter is in the empty auditorium, time flowing differently for him than for the outside world. He's trying to create - driven to create to transform his demons into beauty.
Then, without resolution for himself, the cycle begins again - children hear him playing and go off, humming his song.
Sometimes our own tragic moments are someone else's playground tunes, and that is a ok.
I may go back and re-do the tune, make the lyrics a bit more grammatically lined up etc, but it stands well as it is too.

lyrics

If the music can save me I won't have these regrets X 3

Quick split the difference of infinite hold
if I throw these arms open, it's to say I am absolved
touch on freedom to glance the notes
don't try to hold time, your hands will turn into ghosts

A young pianist, trapped in the concert hall
chained to inspirations intermittent call
picture a gun, pointed up against the wall
so he touch the perfect chords, lets them sound, resonate and fall

He stands up sweating, walks to the edge of the stage
stares out at 200 empty chairs
he looks through the window, the seasons have changed
as his heavy breathing slows, he sang

two children running through the snow
away from their backyard, until they stumble
breathless against a great window
and hear the faint tendrils of a song
touching their faces through the glass
they stand transfixed until their skin turns numb
they don't know what it means
but sing it all the way home.

If the music can save me, I won't have these regrets
