about

The original inspiration for the song, was the beautiful and impermanent art of Aboriginal Australians, Tibetan monks, and contemporary artists such as Andy Goldsworthy.

When I first recorded it, in 2006, it was based on an improvisation, and it was also before I began taking testosterone to transition. Later, in 2009, I revisited the piece and added a duet part. The recording isn't perfect, but it is a look into a moment in time.

lyrics

I have reoccurring daydreams about sand painting
(All I ever wanted was to stay)

I had nothing to say so I made you a picture with every color I had
(I still felt the tear of giving myself away)

I suspended my emotions in time as the wind blew soft grains away
(For a second I felt connected)

* * * * * * *

now my car doesn’t go that fast and its raining hard
now the music is loud enough to drown out my senses
now my car doesn’t go that fast and its raining hard
now the music is loud enough to drown out my senses

I race to a red light, pause, then slip away
